About lavern

I was born and raised in Rocky Mount, N.C. I have 3 sisters and 4 brothers. After I graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High, I left home and moved to Miami in 1984. I later attended Wilford Beauty Academy for Cosmetology. After graduating from Wilford Beauty Academy in 1985, I met my mentor Cuzzie “Curley” King and began working at Curley’s Beauty Salon at the age of 19. When “Curley” passed in 1998 I continued operating the business as the owner and also started Curley’s House as a tribute to her legacy. I then attended Miami Dade Community College to study Real Estate Law and Business Administration. I am also an ordained African Queen Mother, crowned African Queen by the Motherhood. I personally funded Curley’s House myself for the first 4 years with no outside help.

“my mission is to improve the quality of life for low to moderate income individuals, families, veterans, the homeless, at risk youth, the abused, & HIV/AIDS infected individuals “

I have fought as a community activist for over Twenty years. Curley’s House currently has 15 volunteer/employees that share the load along with other community partners. I have provided food to over 5000 households monthly since Curley’s House was established. Now is the time for the next level of thinking, hopefully you can work with me and elect me for Miami Dade County, Congressional Seat in District 24.
